A small fry preying on man. This painting shows my anger at the men who dictate my life (my father in particular). I am reduced to my gender and body parts by them. This makes feel small and helpless. This painting is my way of showing my anger against them. By using a fish (Carp) that is domesticated often, I wanted to show the prey preying on it’s killer.
This painting is inspired by the film ‘The Handmaiden’ in relation to it’s theme of women reclaiming their identities by escaping the men who prey on them. The inspiration to use Japanese Koi(carp) is also inspired by the movies use of Japanese Art, Shunga.
